Every week of this "Angels Among Us" series, someone has come up and told me a story of an angel in their life. They are stories of ordinary encounters and spectacular interventions, clear content or ambiguous interpretation–some are recognized at the time as divine interactions and others are recognized only in hindsight. What is fascinating is that many are momentary glimpses of grace and assurance provided by strangers, who are never seen again. The book by Susan Robb, The Angels of Christmas: Hearing God's Voice in Advent has several such stories. The fleeting nature of these encounters makes me want to pay attention in new ways--to be open to such brushes with angel wings. Because, for many, it happens not in spectacular form with a guy in a white suit and feathers intervening in the day, it's much subtler. And whether you call these moments of grace or angelic sightings matters not. What matters is how we respond. How do these encounters encourage us to act with more hope, more peace, more joy and love? How do they call us to be the messengers of reassurance and courage for others? –Pastor Kelly | | GIFTS FOR THE KING Please return your gifts with the tag that has the gift details (from the tree) this Sunday (December 11th).
