This time of year lots of people in the community seek somewhere to serve. Parents wanting to teach their children about giving back, retirees wanting to make their discretionary time meaningful, folks wanting to infuse a spirit of giving into the stressful holiday season. They want to serve meals to homeless people, or donate a coat or help build a Habitat house. Something obvious. Something big, if only for a few hours.
The Holiday Stroll offers a smaller, more subtle way to serve. It's all about hospitality for those welcoming folks in, out of the cold. And it's about offering welcome and creativity to little ones for those at the "Kids Spot." It's about caring for the building for those who come early to prepare or stay late to clean up. It's about providing a spiritual environment for those who choose to light a candle for peace in the chapel. It's about supporting Music Director Mike and his students who will perform. It's also about helping fellow member and Stroll leader, Panicky Paul Pederzani, not have such a big ulcer (sign up today to help with that–link is below).
Thousands of people will be coming through our building on Saturday to enjoy concerts, concessions, and kids space. Jodi and others have been working hard to spruce up the walls to show the inclusive love of the gospel MSUMC seeks to embody. For those, like me, who aren't excited about large crowds and food truck lines, remember that this is a community event of coming together and a holiday tradition for many. It doesn't have to be our cup of tea, to serve those who love this event. Hope to see you Saturday.
