What does it mean to love the world God so loved? Our eco-theology series is asking that question. The series, Here We Are: Notes for Living On Planet Earth, has been getting quite a bit of interest. Folks from all over are tuning in, engaging with our social media content, commenting and sharing gratitude for the work. One other church is currently following along and other churches have requested the series to use in their own congregations. It's gratifying to see the work of so many people, the green church team, the choir, the writers group, the tech team, the kids Sunday School (check out their ramp bulletin board), and the worship team come together to engage our theological imaginations.

Thanks and I look forward to "seeing" you in worship (in the sanctuary or online).

Rev Kelly

Interim Appointment of New Granite District Superintendent Announced

"I am so grateful to Jackie for her willingness to return to the Cabinet at this critical time in the life of our Church," said Bishop Johnson. "This interim appointment will offer the Granite District a leader with experience and a pastoral heart while allowing the next bishop to make important decisions about the Conference's future leadership."

Dr. Brannen will follow Rev. Taesung Kang, who will be completing seven years of ministry as the District Superintendent in the Granite District. He will begin serving as the pastor of the South UMC in the Seacoast District beginning July 1, 2024.

An elder in the New England Conference, Dr. Brannen served for 19 years before retiring in 2023. She served local churches throughout New Hampshire and Maine in addition to serving as Katahdin District Superintendent. She is currently serving the First United Methodist Church of Portsmouth, NH.

She is a spiritual director with a passion for helping folks connect with God. Dr. Brannen, her grandson Matthew and her two beloved Yorkies live at Wesley by the Sea, the Preachers' Aid Society community for retired clergy in Wells, ME. She loves to travel, read, and write. Dr. Brannen said, "While my retirement plan had not originally included serving once again as a District Superintendent, I am thrilled to be able to serve God and the churches and people of New Hampshire, where I grew up and began my ministry."

Do you ever feel old?

In my Love Your Neighbor Coalition efforts planning for the upcoming General Conference, I work with two thirty-something colleagues just starting their families, and I'm in awe of their energy and creativity and passion for the denomination's future. It makes me feel hopeful -- and OLD. And then in Charlotte this last summer at the Reconciling Ministries Convocation, there was a whole group of twenty-something seminary students running around (quite literally), offering their analysis and staying up way too late. Their energy and anger and commitment to a church that has so often let them down, renews me. There, I met Diego, a young seminary student from Bogata, Columbia, studying Wesleyan inclusion at Boston School of Theology. He was so eager for opportunities to serve; his excitement for life is contagious. He's our guest preacher this Sunday (he was originally scheduled for Jan 7). Let's welcome him. (I hear he got married over the winter break so let's welcome them both.)

Blessings,

Pastor Kelly

An interesting article in one of the latest UM News blasts about a "church space reimagined" in Springfield, MA Trinity Church.  A worthwhile read about taking a "somewhat drab" meeting room and creating an Art Gallery.

Human Relations Day is a denomination-wide Special Sunday set aside to celebrate and raise awareness to further the development of better human relations by involving congregations in community and youth outreach. A special offering for Human Relations Day will be taken this Sunday in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. The gifts build King's vision of "the beloved community" through programs such as Community Developers and United Methodist Voluntary Services and Youth Offender Rehabilitation Programs. They recognize how intertwined and connected we all are. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

It's a good reminder also for this series on living on planet earth. As we look to our kin in creatures and creation, we recognize that what we do to the planet, we do to ourselves. United Methodists are working globally to care for the Earth. Last Sunday, we posted the videos we would've watched in worship (had big snow not have fallen) - exciting work to come together across national borders to address better stewardship of the planet. Check them out and donate to support the continued work of the UM connection.

Blessings,

Pastor Kelly

Next meeting Wed. Jan. 17, 2024 7 PM

In person in chapel and

online via google meets

Happy New Year to everyone. The next meeting of UMW is Wed. Jan. 17 at 7 PM. We will plan for an in-person meeting with virtual option on google meets, but may go totally virtual if weather is bad. Mavis Pyle will share about her experience volunteering at Stepping Stones. We will spend a good portion of the meeting setting our guideline budget for 2024 and discussing some initial plans for meetings through June. Bring your ideas along. We hope to plan some daytime winter craft workshops and Kathy Romano has an idea for a baking day at church preparing coffee hour foods to freeze. We were excited that the 30 Days of Sharing Food Box was filled and we were able to deliver to the Soup Kitchen in time for the holidays. Thanks to everyone who contributed.
