Main Street UMC needs YOU! I have had an incredible team of volunteers working behind the scenes the past two years to bring our children Vacation Bible School Care Packages, but this year WE ARE BACK! We are returning to in-person VBS, so I need all hands on deck. If your God-given gifts do not include working with children, that's no problem... There are numerous ways you can help! And you can start by spreading the word about VBS with anyone and everyone.

Click on this link for more information and to select the way(s) you would like to help:

Coming Soon:  Short-term Service Opportunities:  Let's expand our outreach into the city by welcoming and helping with the following events:

Suit Yourself:  August 16th, 9:00 am-1:00 pm:
Main Street UMC is working with the Veterans Administration, Harbor Care, Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Revive Recovery and other local groups to help people get spiffy for interviews with hiring managers on August 17th.  While our community partners will do most of the work, we would welcome a few each of Building Hosts, Interview Coaches, Encouragers ("Hey, you look great!  Good luck tomorrow!"), Helpers for set-up/tear-down.  This is the first time MSUMC has hosted this annual event and a great opportunity to welcome and introduce ourselves to community partners and our neighbors who are looking to better their lives!  (Donations of cleaned, pressed interview attire in great condition is also welcome!)

Nashua Soup Kitchen School Backpack Program:  August 17th-24th:
Deepening our existing partnership with the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, we will host the backpack program this year, which provides backpacks and school supplies for our local students.  Volunteer Building Hosts and Backpack Stuffers are welcomed. Come for one day or for several!  (A list of items to donate will follow soon!)

Please reach out to Pastor Kristy (kristy.besada@mainstreet-umc.org) for more information!

UMW UPDATE and UPCOMING EVENTS

Hi Everyone,
At our UMW meeting last Wed. we decided to hold an in-person fair this year and move it to October.   We are still deciding between Sat. the 15th and the 22nd.  The 15th is the Nashua Duck Derby as well as Great American Downtown's Oompah in the Park.  Will this bring more folks to the area that we can direct via signs to stop by the church as well?  Our decision also needs to be made based on the availability of volunteers to work the fair areas.  For a luncheon, even a carry out one, one of our serve-safe trained people needs to be in the kitchen.  Your input is valuable on this decision, so I hope to get a response from many of you who have helped with the fair in the past or are excited about trying something new and are interested in helping this year.

We will not hold regular meetings in July and August, but will try to plan one or two craft workshops.  Be watching for more on that.

We have a couple volunteer opportunities coming up in August in our building that Kristy mentioned at our meeting and Pastor Kelly talked about during worship on Sunday.  Those are "Suit Up" which helps folks to prepare for job interviews and the Soup Kitchen Back Pack drive.  More information will be coming up on the church website/Facebook page about these.

The Water Walk.: Saturday, September 10th from 8:30 am - noon, ,,mark your schedule for that!!

Enjoy some down time and recreation this summer.
Grace and Peace,
Pam

A Message from Pastor Kelly
One of the joys to belonging to a church long term is you get to share in each other's major life events – like Confirmation, graduation (both of high school and graduate degrees), births (we anointed baby Micah Weir on Sunday), anniversaries, and deaths. In the span of 10 days, we did it all.

On Tuesday, we buried Bill & Ella Gosselin at Woodlawn on what would have been the 54 wedding anniversary – a photo of their wedding in our sanctuary sat beside the urn where their ashes were mingled. Church was important to the Gosselins and they passed their love of faith down to their children and grandchildren.

We celebrate and remember all those who are part of the great cloud of witnesses and are grateful for the ways we get to be a part of their journeys throughout life.

- Pastor Kelly

I ran into Pastor Rich Cullen at Annual Conference last week and he asked that I send you greeting!!
He's doing well in Maine and is happy to report that Irene and Jay recently landed in his area and church -- so they're doing well also!
--Rev Kelly

We send our condolences to Al James on the death of his mother Geraldine. Stop by the office to read up on the remarkable life of this woman who worked so hard for voter rights, who marked the history of her church, whose dedicated efforts  fought against discrimination and made the Air Force a better place for women. It is a beautiful tribute to her spiritual legacy and life.

Juneteenth Information

As we enter into Juneteenth and a time of reflection and celebration, it is important to have accurate information from which we can learn and grow.  Thank you to Al James for providing this resource to us.

Janice Holland, sister of Ginny Lamb and brother-in-law Roy Lamb, passed away on Memorial Day after a fall and battle with COVID.

Janice's sister,  Virginia Lamb  passed away in April of 2021. The two sisters attended church regularly until Ginny became ill and then Janice attended church and sat with friends like Sally Curtis. Roy Lamb, her brother-in-law and husband of Ginny, saw to it that Janice got very good care.

She loved getting visits from the church Nurture team and loved telling stories.  Nurture was happy when Janice came to Nashua Crossings where we could visit her. She loved visitors and Roy visited her there most every day. Janice was happy to have other Mainstreeters there like Raejean Lester and the Thompsons.

She was active on funeral luncheons with Carol Riley and also was a pie cutter, also with Carol for the ham and bean suppers. I especially remember her enormous pasta salad with pepperoni, cheeses, olives and other goodies. We so appreciated her Nurture activities as she had such a great attitude.

There will not be any services per Janice's wishes. Janice will be missed by our church.
