Louise Crews Thompson was born June 8, 1924 in Alexandria, Virginia, daughter of George Whitfield Crews and Mabel (Cridlin) Crews. She graduated from George Washington High School and on scholarship attended Temple Secretarial School in Washington, D.C.
She began her government career with the Arlington District Corps of Engineers on the construction of the Pentagon and was one of its first occupants. Upon completion of the Pentagon, she transferred to the Washington District Corps of Engineers where she was affectionately known as "Buttercup". Over many years of government employment, she rose to the position of Administrative Assistant to the Assistant General Counsel for Legal Affairs to the Secretary of Defense.
In Willingboro, NJ, she was the secretary at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She compiled and published their first membership directory.
In Nashua, NH, she served many years on the Board of Directors at the Norwell Home, including several terms as President. Active at Main Street United Methodist Church since1965, she served as Membership Secretary for many years, compiling and publishing their first directory. She was active in United Methodist Women.
An avid gardener, she derived much joy in sharing her flower plants with others.
She and Redding A. Thompson have celebrated 66 years of marriage. They have four sons and seven grandchildren. A brother, George Crews Jr., and sisters Cerrie Coil and Charlotte Beamer predeceased her.
A celebration of life is being planned and further details will be shared once a date is determined by the family.
