From February 2024 when Kent Swanson started the solar project with a group of United Methodist Men, it's been a long road of researching and dreaming, of number crunching and engineering site visits, of NEAC conference permissions and tours of other solar churches. We have prayed and planned our way into paying for our electric bill with solar energy both as good fiscal policy and a commitment to eco-stewardship. Last night's meeting with ReVision Energy helped us understand the possibilities. We need to move quickly to get on their installation calendar and to unlock green energy credits that may soon end.

Please prayerfully consider how you might be part of this legacy project. We're asking for pledge cards to be completed in the next two weeks (with the ability to complete the pledge over the next 7 months) so that we might know how many solar panels we can afford to install (and how much long term savings we'll reap). A Charge Conference, presided over by the District Superintendent will be held on Tuesday, June 24 at 7 to act on the recommendation of Council.

Last night, we prayed to the God of blessings, whose universe sings of divine glory, that we might be re-awakened to a commitment to care for the earth and each other. That we might discern wisely so that our common home might be healed and restored and all people, and generations to come, may delight in it.

Please consider your part in making this project a reality.

This Saturday, June 14th we will begin at the church at 9AM due to the afternoon funeral.  We will be working outside so come prepared with work gloves and rain gear as it is supposed to be another Saturday of rain.  We will then travel over to the parsonage for some more outdoor projects.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David Brown John Mazaiwana, who departed this life on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the age of 89 in Nashua, New Hampshire, after a period of illness.

Born on February 19, 1936, in Mutare, Zimbabwe, David was the fourth of six children born to the late Elizabeth Musamba and Abel Finhai Mazaiwana. From an early age, David had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, which would shape the course of his life and career.

He began his education at Mudenda Primary School before attending Old Mutare and St. Augustine's High Schools. Driven by ambition and a deep love for learning, David journeyed across the world to the United States. He earned a bachelor's degree in Geography from Morningside College in Iowa and later obtained a second bachelor's degree in History from Indiana University.

Returning to Zimbabwe, David devoted himself to education. He began his teaching career at Mrewa High School and went on to serve as Headmaster at Nyakatsapa Primary School. He concluded his distinguished career as Deputy Head at Oriel Boys High School, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and impact in the field of education.

David was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and a committed member of the United Methodist Church. He was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts and was a passionate supporter of soccer. His life was grounded in faith, service, and family.

On May 9, 1960, David married the love of his life, Lydia (née Muzorewa). Their union of 65 years was filled with love, strength, and shared devotion. Together they were blessed with three sons: the late George Tenda, the late Abel Gwinyai, and their youngest, James Chenaimoyo(Plaxedex), who survives him. He is also survived by one  sister Olgah Mutsongodza, five grandchildren, one great grandchild and a host of dear family members.

David's life will be honored at Main Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 14 at 1PM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the Mazaiwana Family Cemetery in Mudenda, Zimbabwe.

David's wisdom, compassion, and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Tinson Lam, a proud Lowell native, is a dedicated music educator, professional musician, and arts administrator. He currently serves as the Executive Director and President of the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra, while also shaping the next generation of musicians as a music teacher in the Lowell Public Schools. In addition to his work in schools and on stage, Tinson offers private voice, violin, and viola lessons to emerging artists in the community.

Tinson's journey with the Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra began in 2019 as a musician. He quickly stepped into leadership, serving as School Outreach Director in 2020. In January 2024, he was appointed President, where he led initiatives such as organizing and supporting committees, collaborating with the Music Director, developing a membership drive, and securing critical funding. In 2025, his role expanded to include Executive Director, formalizing his oversight of the orchestra's strategic direction, community engagement, and operational management—ensuring its continued growth and cultural relevance in the region.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Asbury University and a Master of Science in Performing Arts Leadership and Management from Shenandoah University. In 2022, his work in arts integration earned him top honors at the Shenandoah University Research Expo. With a strong foundation in music education, Tinson remains committed to fostering accessibility, appreciation, and opportunity for musicians across Greater Lowell.

Congratulations Tinson!
