After half a century, The United Methodist Church no longer mandates discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. Reconciling Ministries Network was on the frontline of that effort. But as you know, creating a truly inclusive Church takes time, courage, and commitment. LGBTQ+ people are still being turned away. Queer clergy still face isolation. And many churches are unsure of how to move forward. The denomination still needs reconciling individuals and congregations to support the efforts to remove bias and to provide training, support, and accompaniment for the efforts to move forward. At Uncharted, the biennial Convocation this week, the goal is to raise $75,000 during the Starry Night banquet to fund RMN's vital work in this new era. They're over halfway there already, and with your help, they can reach the finish line.

As a former board member, and a representative of the New England Conference Commission on the Role & Status of Women, I'll be in Madison, Wisconsin envisioning the church that benefits from rainbow theology and a broad affirmation of all. And I hope you'll prayerfully consider what financial support you can offer.
In my absence Sunday, Deacon Kristy Besada will be preaching and it's an important milestone in her ordination journey. This week's service, showcasing her gifts in leadership, will be evaluated by the Board of Ordained Ministry. I encourage your presence in the sanctuary (don't be afraid to sit closer to the middle) and your engaged participation (shout your "Amen," "Preach it, sister"). If our children are all on vacation, I invite some "young at heart to come forward" to help her showcase her skills with all age groups. Sing out. Clap to the beat. Let it be known that the spirit is active at MainStreet UMC and in our called leaders. Pray for her on Sunday and then this Fall when she goes before the Board.
Peace,
RevKelly
