"We all used to take turns praying extemporaneously at the table, even when the boys were really little. Now, we say a VERY simple table grace. I think Aidan and his grandma came up with it on the fly during a grandparent visit. I was frustrated and wrangling an overstimulated toddler into a booster seat while trying to serve a bigger crowd than usual. Everyone was hungry and tired. These few, simple words became our grace for the rest of that visit and every day after. After getting quiet, we all say together "Thank you for the food. Thank you for the company. Amen." If we want to add more we do, but it usually says everything we need to say."

Soup for the Soul
Vegetable White Bean Soup (The Minimalist Baker) - 2 Tbsp olive, avocado, or coconut oil
- 1 large white or yellow onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 cup carrots (sliced)
- 1/2 tsp each sea salt and black pepper (plus more to taste)
- 1 tsp dried basil, oregano and garlic powder
- 1/2 pound red potatoes (quartered)
- 2 medium yellow squash or zucchini (sliced)
- 2 14.5-ounce cans fire-roasted tomatoes
- 1 15-ounce can tomato sauce
- 5 cups veggie stock (DIY or store-bought // add more salt if needed when using reduced sodium)
- 1 15-ounce can white beans (rinsed and drained)
- 3 cups kale (or other sturdy green // chopped)
Instructions- Heat a large pot or dutch oven over medium heat and prep veggies.
- Add oil, then onion, garlic, carrot and stir. Season with salt, pepper, and spices and stir again to coat.
- Next add squash, potatoes, fire roasted tomatoes, tomato sauce and veggie stock. Bring soup to a simmer and then reduce heat to low and cover. Continue cooking for 15 minutes, then add beans, another pinch each salt and pepper, and stir. If the soup starts boiling, be sure to lower heat to just a light simmer.
- Cook for at least another 10 minutes to let the flavors meld, and then add kale, stir, and cover. Cook for 5 minutes more.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve with a hearty bread.

| Caste: The Origins of our Discontents

Tuesday, March 23 from 7:00 - 8:30 on Google Meet
Join Pastor Kristy in discussing this important and hopeful book, as author Isabel Wilkerson examines American race relations from a new perspective. Dispensing with the charged word "racism," Ms. Wilkerson skillfully describes the history and context of an American caste system that has kept Black people and others from advancing as easily as their White counterparts in American society. The book is a page-turner and powerful in its assessment. Participants will be expected to have read or listened to the entire book before March 23, as discussion will be around the ideas in the book and not a general discussion of race in America.
Notes: This book is clearly written but will take you some time to read. If participants would like more time for discussion, extra sessions may be added to accommodate particular topics.

| The UMHEF Scholarship Program awarded over $2+ million in scholarship every year to the members of the United Methodist Church to defray the cost of their college education. If your youth is an active member of the Mainstreet United Methodist Church and is preparing to attend college in the coming fall or is currently attending college, click this link to apply for a scholarship: https://www.umhef.org/apply/. The deadline is March 1, 2021 for scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Each year the New England Conference Scholarship Committee seeks applications from adults or recent high school graduates who are pursuing undergraduate education at any accredited two- or four-year college, university or technical school. Applicants must be United Methodist Church members and are eligible to apply every year until they complete their undergraduate degree. In 2019-20, there were 50 scholarships totaling $28,315 granted to students from the New England Conference.
The application for scholarship support can only be submitted online (see the links below). The deadline has been extended: Applications for 2020-21 support are now due midnight on May 22, 2020.

Hello Main Street music lovers! Believe it or not, it's time to start working on our Palm Sunday cantata. Just like our Christmas cantata, this year, our Palm Sunday cantata will be virtual. Everyone is invited to participate! You can choose to do just one song or several, or you can volunteer to record a reading. Election of new representative needed
In paragraph 32 of our Book of Discipline it lays out who the lay members of the annual conference are. A little over halfway through that paragraph it states, "Each charge served by more than one clergy shall be entitled to as many lay members as there are clergy members."
So now that Kristy is appointed to MSUMC, we get another representative to Annual Conference which is always held in June (usually in Manchester). But this year, it will be a virtual zoom affair so it will be easier for anyone interested in representing our church and getting to know the workings of the denomination at the conference level.

Thank you for making the Family Promise housewares drive a success!
On January 31 and February 1, Main Street UMC members and new friends from social media converged on the MSUMC parking lot with gifts for the families who will soon move into the new Family Promise of Southern NH facility. These brand-new, colorful contributions will outfit 7 full adult bedrooms, 3 cribs, 3 full children's bedrooms and a whole family bathroom, with lots of additional sheet sets, towels, comforters, mattress pads, brooms, plungers, cleaning products and toilet paper to help program participants feel like home as they move forward through a time of crisis. In addition to the advertised items, an internet friend also donated new, handmade baby blankets and a collection of hand-tied fleece blankets made by her Girl Scout troop. And another church member donated a safety-step ladder that the program plans to use in their food pantry. Our gifts filled two very full van-loads, and the Family Promise Staff were thrilled by your generosity! Thank you!!
During a tour, Pastors Kelly and Kristy were impressed with the lovely new family suites, private family bathrooms, HEPA air filtration system, and the huge, industrial kitchen where weeknight meals can be prepared and served during the week, so that working parents are free to deal with family needs on those nights. Though the facility is not yet finished, we are certain that, even at partial capacity, it will be a huge support to families experiencing homelessness in the area. With the support of the program, including financial literacy training and case management, most families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency within a year.
Family Promise will need other support as they begin to welcome residents. Stay tuned for opportunities to serve as we learn their COVID-19 protocols and their program needs. For more information, visit www.familypromisesnh.org |

Here are some options for our Easter Tree of Life, an alternative way to honor or remember a special person in the life of your family. Any gift that you choose will help to make another family more independent, and a young animal will be passed on to a new family so that your gift will keep on giving!
