"Every creature is a word of God and a book about God." I've always loved this quote from the influential, medieval, German mystic Meister Eckhart. He challenged the church to examine the natural world and our role as part of God's good creation. Perhaps his most famous line was "If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough."

Thank you to all those who made comments or sent us notes about the importance of this topic and your excitement that Main Street is addressing it. And thank you to the Green Church folx and Peggy Drew, in particular, for all the work in putting it together. Already one other church is using our work and several others have asked for the series to be published in a way they can use it also.

It hardly seems possible that our Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth series is coming to an end this Sunday with guest preacher Marina Vaz, an eco-justice advocate from the Conservation Law Foundation newly appointed to Nashua – in part, because of the work to defeat an asphalt plant in a residential neighborhood downtown. What a fitting conclusion as we consider how to be faithful citizens of the world. And BONUS, little Bentley (Mike Gallaher's grandson) is being baptized in the same chancel where Mike was baptized.

Lent comes early this year and Ash Wednesday falls on Valentines Day, Feb 14. Who doesn't love a reminder of one's mortality and the marks of ashes?

Pastor Kelly

Broken pipes continue to overflow in the basement of the main building.  Water has been turned off and we cannot use any of the facilities in the main building; this includes, kitchen, bubbler, faucets, toilets or putting any liquid down the drains.  We can however us the water and bathroom facilities in the Wesley Building and the connector lobby.

We hope to have work down this week, but please plan accordingly for no water use on Sunday in case work is not done.  Bring your own water, coffee, etc. for fellowship as the kitchen may still be shut down.

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to get our building back up and running!

Below is our Lent Reflections submissions for the upcoming Ash Wednesday.

John Pagett passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 6th at the Hunt community. His daughter Wendy was at his side. He was the former organist at Main St. UMC and First Church in Nashua. His remains will be cremated and sent to his home state of CA.  There will be no local services at this time. Later in the year a tribute will be held at Main St. UMC.  If you'd like the family's address, call the church office or Nancy Long.

UNITED METHODIST MEN MEETING

SATURDAY, FEB 17

UMM will not meet this Saturday, February 4th due to the unavailability of our favorite chef, Jerry Harrow, who will be on vacation.  Instead of this Saturday, UMM will meet on Saturday, February 17th at 8:30 AM for breakfast, followed by our meeting at 9:00.

Our intention is to follow-up on our interest in completing a feasibility study to transform our electric power use to solar.  Anyone with knowledge of how this might be done we would like you to come to discuss this power transformation!

Pleases RSVP to h.kentswanson3rd@aol.com if you can attend, so we can plan accordingly.

All are welcome!

In Christ,

Kent Swanson
