"Our Hometown" is an award-winning series on New Hampshire PBS that highlights our state's towns and tells their unique stories. Hosted by Rebecca Rule, the episode that featured Nashua was premiered at the Nashua Center for the Arts last June. Not only is the episode itself fascinating but there are additional videos online by student filmmakers that go deep in this city's welcome of immigrants and refugees, the Brooklyn Dodgers Black Heritage Trail history, and the efforts to develop young community-minded leaders. Part of our church's mission aligns with this work to make Nashua a welcoming, equitable, vibrant and creative place to live. (bonus points if you watch the video that mentions our church and the mural beside us).

We're excited to welcome the PBS host, Rebecca Rule, to Main Street UMC's sanctuary on April 13 from 11-12 as part of the United Women in Faith District meeting. Rule is also a children's book author so I imagine she'll appreciate Andrea's new display in the lobby advertising Camp Firelight (the VBC program the last week of June). Our ministries (and our town's efforts) to engage children and youth are critical to their own development and that of our city. We want to create a fun, faith-filled and safe environment for them. Which is why I'll be attending the New England Conference Safe Sanctuary Training (I'm registered for the Maine training on May 6 on zoom). There are multiple dates available to make it convenient (scroll below for more information on how you can register). The Conference is encouraging laity to attend.

At a meeting this week on youth homelessness, we learned that there are currently 280 Nashua high school students who are homeless. And the next age group 18-24, those young people served by Stepping Stones, have even higher numbers. It was good to see so many agencies work collaboratively to address these youth's needs. Several of the case workers were themselves homeless at one point and these agencies helped them find resources and education and now they're helping others. It's a story heard often of Nashua -- how we come together across differences and difficulties to work together and make things better.

Blessings,

Pastor Kelly

Savers Fundraiser

Hello, church family! The local, faith-based moms' group I am a part of (MOPS) has partnered with Savers in Nashua for a fundraiser, and we need your help! We are collecting gently used items to donate and in turn, Savers will make a financial contribution to MOPS. As you Spring clean, please keep us in mind and let us take your items to Savers for you. I will be collecting items through Sunday, May 12th. You can bring them to church on Sunday mornings or contact me, and I can come to pick them up from you. Please note that we are not collecting furniture.

Please leave items in the small conference room off the Vestry.

Thank you,

Andrea Weir

Nora noticed that the space where she attends a theater summer camp at Wasserman Park is lacking an adequate dressing area for the campers and stage wings to hide the actors when they're not on stage.  Nora also wants to update the entry to be more inviting.

Nora presented her project proposal at the Town Council meeting in December for approval to make the necessary renovations to the space.

Nora recites the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the meeting and then her presentation starts at minute mark 11:10.

Since the project approval in December, Nora has acquired the necessary funds and has started construction of the dressing area and stage wings in addition to making improvements to the entry.

Nora is hosting a Project Help Day on Saturday, April 20th from 1-4pm to paint the stage wings and dressing room walls, and create a feature wall in the entry.  All volunteers are welcomed to help Nora with this community project!
