Someone thanked me Sunday for the sermon --said they needed to hear the message of everyone having gifts to offer and to not begrudge others who give differently.
It's a good reminder when there's so many fabulous things to give to in the United Methodist Church. There's Special Sunday offerings that tug at your heart (like Human Relations Day, UM Student Day, UMCOR, Peace with Justice). New to this year's "Awareness" Sundays schedule is this week's designation of "Organ and Tissue Donor." At year end, we receive lots of opportunities to give, including to the Reconciling Ministries Network and the Love Your Neighbor Coalition in preparation for General Conference 2024. And there's even options to give to your local congregation. It's pledge time so we ask that you prayerfully discern what you plan to give financially to Main Street in 2024. But there's also year-end 2nd mile giving that benefits Missions globally and there are memorial gifts in honor of someone special and holiday opportunities like donations for poinsettias or the NSKS.
You need not give to all. We hope you don't feel any guilt for not giving to ALL the opportunities that come your way. Rather, find what speaks to your heart. Stretch yourself in supporting the area that calls to you and discover the joy of giving to THAT ministry. Know the power of generosity.
Today was damp, cold and generally miserable outdoors but we were warmed indoors by the fellowship and fun that the Cranes bring when they visit. And by their generosity. David wanted to honor and remember his lovely wife Velna with a $10,000 donation to pay down the parsonage. We remember the loving spirit of Velna, her smile, her big heart, her kindness and love of family!
Thanks David for such a lovely way to memorialize your wife. And for brightening our day.
Blessings,
Rev Kelly
