Bishop Schnase writes:
"We give because we are made in the image of God, whose essential nature is giving.
We are created with God's nature imprinted on our souls–hard-wired to be social, compassionate, connected, loving, and generous. God's extravagant generosity is part of our essential nature as well."
This is the underlying premise behind every church stewardship campaign and it's an important one. It sees our prayerfully-discerned, intentional pledge of support to the community of faith as a spiritual discipline.
We are grateful for the 30 individuals or families that have already participated in this spiritual practice. We realize that MSUMC members are often slow to return their pledge cards so we appreciate the leading of these 30 pledge units to make a commitment to generosity. That includes 4 new pledges we've received and the 26 increases in pledged giving. It includes youth members and new members. It includes commitments from those who are retired, those with steady jobs and those are unemployed or underemployed. We're grateful! We're getting closer to 40 pledgers we had last year and creeping toward the goal of 50 pledges.
If you haven't already given yourself the gift of discernment of how you will support MSUMC through a pledge in 2025, we invite you to do that this week. No matter the amount, your pledge matters. Help us reach our goal.
In gratitude,
Pastor Kelly
